Carwash

Sitting Thursday at the Carwash
Trying to get one part of me in order
People-watching the other customers
Wondering which of the ones I see
Are happy with the life they lead

Green Saturn
Big boned shapely Hispanic girl
Tightly dressed in mini and tank
Eating chicken fingers and fries
Slowly licks her own catching my eyes

Blue Honda
Tall red head – forty-ish
Still attractive at her age
Legs crossed, toenails perfect
Talks on cell phone to cat’s vet

Black Ford Pickup
Lean tanned blond – young
Time at the gym visible under her jeans
Bops with headphones - reads a paperback book
Shifts her sunglasses flashes a smile and kind look

Sitting Thursday at the Carwash
Giving up on getting me in order
People-watching the other customers
Knowing the truth leaves no room for doubt
We are all victims of what we choose to live without
