Can you help?

I have a school paper due and I would like to get as many answers to this question as I can before I need to write the paper. I will be taking answer suntil Saturday night so that way I will have time to write the paper.

What is one news worthy event that has had an impact on you and your generation except 911?

Once you answer the question please leave just your age so I know what generation you are in. Thank you in advance for your time and help.

I'd agree with the fall of the Wall, and I'm the same generation too Smile

I'd say the fall of the Berlin wall takes a close second place to the release of Nelson Mandela..

And I am 40, and South African...

Well, the first thing that popped into my mind was the explosion of the Space Shuttle Challenger in 1986. But, looking at the other responses, I'd say theirs are better.

I am 32. Very Happy

So far ladies you rock for answering me.

And Wil no one answer is better then the rest. I just need you to tell me what effected you. So thank you for taking the time. Just to be honest here. I remember both and more, but watching Challenger exploded in the sky marked me more than the fall of the wall.

First and for most that was the point. To say the first thing that popped into your mind.

Second ... so far the answers have been the along the same lines over all. I am getting my answers from more than one place. So country and race aren't playing as big of a part as I would have thought. Age, however is the biggest factor.

What is the paper for? School ... I thought I mentioned that. ~lol~ It is for my Comp II (English class) And I trying to prove this statement wrong: 'Genration X ... no name, no hope, no voice except to whine.' It is a long story to explain it all, but for the most part we are studding essays in this class and one of them points out that as a genration those of us that belong to Gen X don't care about the world and if it doesn't have something to do with us than we just don't care. Now no one get bent because of what I just said. The point of the paper is to argue the essay.

~takes a deep breath~ How is that for an answer 4? As for posting the essay I will have to think about that. It is one thing for my stories and poems, but school work is another. I will keep in mind though. Thanks to all that has already given me an answer.

OK I will bite. The death of JFK was quite an earthshattering event. I was still just a babe but the image of Jon Jon in his lil suit saluting his father's casket will always be one of my earliest memories. I can also remember the first steps taken on the moon. It was a huge event to watch on TV at that time. 46 here and climbing Wink

Hey

This probably isnt well known outside oz but the Port Arthur massacre
I was about 10 at the time and it was a big shock because things like that dont really happen here for those who havent heard of it a mentally disabled guy called Martin Bryant shot and killed 35 people and injured 37 this happend in port arthur which is in Tasmania and is currently serving 35 life sentences. There is a link you can check out

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martin_Bryant

I just remember people telling there stories on the news hiding under the dead so he wouldnt see them ect and it stayed with me for a long time.

Oh Alli ... we still love you even if you are climbing. And you aren't the first person to tell me that! Thank you for playing along.

Aussiechick,

There is no right or wrong answer to this question. It is after all what change you. Thank you for your time and answer. Everyone counts.
