Cat, I can tell you from first-hand experience that we're also as expert as anyone else in the arts of screwing up and being pains in the arse!

Well this is just the most interesting thread
Yes I agree that your personhood is the most important thing. The fact is that I don't get on with 90% of lesbians I meet...because well... we are all individuals, and that individuality and your values reign supreme when it comes to friends. But like mystery girl I also agree that it is sometimes a relief to be in the company of other lesbians simply because there are no ifs, buts or other kinds of conditional acceptances of your sexuality with them. It goes like this that I basically refuse to be friends with people without telling them that I am gay...simply because I do not want to pretend to be interested in guy talk just for the sake of fitting in... but having told them that they do not always understand my feelings or even in some cases want to hear about them.
There is nothing worse I can tell you than having to nurse a broken heart and not having a shoulder to cry on.
lol...(I am finished with this negativity....)
or falling in love and not being able to tell your best friend because she wouldn't understand your enthusiasm

I live in a country where being gay is almost illegal. Like they can literally arrest you for being gay.
My environment is predominantly straight. Its not a bad thing I do have my gay fold that I hang out with because its just nice to be around people who also like girls.
I know that being a lesbian is a part of me. Not all of me. and i like hanging out with people whom I can share that with regardless or color and/or creed. _________________ life is... so BE!

Thanks to MG's gentle nudging I made to a 'mature' lesbians meet up & have been back a couple of times. I'm really glad I did it as I don't feel so alone now, it's a space where I can let my guard down for the first time in my life.
Some of them do amuse me with their insistence on patroning gay businesses but activism is alive & well in all forms in our city so I'm used to it! Be it, gay, organic, fairtrade.. you name it, we do it!
I can't see me abandoning my straight friends to immerse myself in gay culture. I am who I am & sexuality is just part of me, not all of me! _________________ .............................................................

Yay Pip, Im glad you finally made the move or took the plunge or whatever you like to call it. And I absolutely agree that our sexuality is only a part of our whole. And no one should EVER abandon one group of friends to hang with another, the more the merrier I say. But as you have found, and Midnights commented on above, it's so nice to be with people where that side of us is taken for granted and doesn't even have to be part of the agenda. It just is.
