I ask this because i feel i had the choice, but most of the gay friends i talk with say they didn't. All i want to know is why i got the right to choose, and others don't. The latest issue of gay marriages, opens the door for many topics but each one i read says they didnt "CHOOSE' to be gay, i thought about my life and started questioning others. maybe mels site has answers....

Hi Chel...
well I don't hold all the answers (I wish I did!) but here are a few points that may be worth considering, as a starting point for this topic of conversation.
In my opinion, there are some women who are able to choose to be gay. I think this opinion can be based on a few facts, such as....
1. Some women are equally comfortable with men or women as sexual partners.
2. Some women may have a preference for one sex but still find sexual appeal in the other.
(I consider that these women would then have a 'choice.' )
3. Some women know they are lesbian from the outset and find no sexual appeal in men.
(I consider that these women have 'no choice.')
4. Consider also the effect of others around us, our blood family and our friends. For some women, to 'come out' may be daunting, and they may choose to 'conform' to what society expects in general (i.e. being straight).
(I consider that these women 'believe' they have no choice, when in fact they do have a choice.)
Anyway...did that make sense? ...feel free to disagree....*smilin' atcha*
All the best now,
Mel

Trying to understand myself
Hi everyone,
I'm a newbie here, and I have something to share since the question was asked. I will be 19 on June 20, so I have not had much of a sex life.
I feel I was born bisexual, and I had no choice. Since I was very little I have felt attraction for both sexes. But I do have a choice in how sexualy active I want to be. The little experience I did have with both sexes was wonderful, and I don't want to be any other way ever.
I just have this concern, that is that I feel sometimes that people both straight and gay might hate us more because we like both sexes. This is probably ignorance on my part because I have little gay friends and never been involved in any gay group (this is the first time for me in a gay forum). So any word of advice will be welcomed.
Thank you,
Clio
