The idea of this thread is that you take the last line, or last couple of words, or last word, from the poem before you and use the as the beginning of your poem post. I'll start:
I am standing on slick ideas,
because one foot is on I love you,
and the other is on I need to love someone else
because I can't have you.
These different grounds move and shake
as they butt against each other.
I cannot always save my heart
from falling into the pit of total despair
over this.
I have to climb back out
only to arrive, once again, to stand
on the shifting plates of contradiction. _________________ A true friend stabs you in the front.

Just to make sure that I understand you correctly.
We are to start our poem off with whatever part of your poem we want to use as long as it is the last line, last couple of words or last word of your poem.
From reading your rules there it appears that you are saying we have to also start our poem off with "The". I assume that is not correct but wish to clarify.
This is a wonderful concept you have here and I will enjoy participating.

the word "THE" is not required at the onset of the poem, just that it begins with either the last line, few words of the last line, or last word of the poem before you.
For example, the person posting after me would use all or part of the line:
I have to climb back out
only to arrive, once again, to stand
on the shifting plates of contradiction.
as their first line of their poem. _________________ A true friend stabs you in the front.

Shifting plates of contradiction
are the two horses backs I stand upon clutching the reigns, as they run,
one the horse of reason
the other unbridled emotion.
I can curse and lament
or learn to balance against the tumultuous.

Against the turmultuous
a new knowledge is born
This endless charade, this endless parade
of those who resemble you
must end
As love dies
I find that I am seeking her
who is completely different to you
transcending now the emotional
and reckless romantic excess
of youth...I see
that there is after all
more than one kind of love...

More than one kind of love
exists in this world
in fact there are varieties within varieties,
and all of them are important.
It is, however, only human nature
to pay way more attention to the kind that is absent
than to the kind that we are wading in an abundance of.
P.S. nice one pale! _________________ A true friend stabs you in the front.

An abundance of
love exists in my heart and a majestic island in the middle of it bears your name
no really it more than bears your name
it calls your name
an empty echoing call
that is never answered by your love.

Love
is very important
sometimes people compromise it
to take care of other things
putting those things before love
but I believe in a God who will surely
reward those who stand with love
and trust
that with love
other matters can and will be worked out.

Out
of my mind
all in my heart
that's what love does to me sometimes
I've never gotten the chance to see that be a good thing.
Usually my heart runs away like a horse without a rider.
I'm the lofty dreamer
the passionate emotional poet
I need a woman who is good with the reigns
an anchor in reality
and one who likes to be in charge.
Whoever she is we'll both know
because she'll say: "jump"
and I'll say: "how high my love."

How high my love
is the mountain I must climb
how deep my love
is the ocean I must cross
how dry and dusty
is the road I must travel
to be with you again?
Some will say that the mountain
is unscaleable
that the ocean is deep and dangerous
and that the road
is tricky and filled with pitfalls
but I will come anyway
because our love is a destiny
that will not be thwarted
by all the evil in the world

All the evil in the world
and all the suffering
truly grieve my soul
but none of it brings the torrent of tears
from my eyes
like the absence of you in my arms.

In my arms
will always be a safe and welcoming place for you to reside.
This safety is as complete as I can offer, for,
it is not just a safety against external physical harm,
not just external intangible assault,
but a safety to relax and really be yourself
you can trust the real beautifully imperfect you
to my true blue soul
I will always look for the good in you
and if I am ever (not likely) tempted to judge you harshly
I'll hold up the mirror of human frailty and flaw before myself
so I can remember to love you as I want to be loved.

since ghost did not follow my poem using all or part of the last line of my poem as her first line, and in addition produced a last line of her own I will endeavor to use part of hers and mine to start this next:
I want to be loved,
for it is good
to be loved
but more than this I want to be loved
by one that I love
otherwise one is just endulging
in addiction to being stroked
both tangibly and intangibly,
This would also afford me
the opportunity to open the dam
and let me pop the cork of the pressurized ferment.
Oh the creative loving I have been denied
giving to another. . .
someone would have little room for doubt
as to whether she was loved or not.
