Talons (#45 La’Tuin)
La’Tuin
What is a La’Tuin…
A La’Tuin is a relatively new form of poetry which consists of a minimum of four four line stanzas with an 'abca, abca' rhyme scheme that is consistent throughout each stanza. Stanzas 2, 3 etc. must all follow the same rhyme sounds as the first stanza. With the first stanza being repeated again at the end of the piece. It contains a minimum of 4 stanzas and you may have more than 4 if you wish…4 is the minimum and there is no maximum.
Terms…
Quatrain – a or stanza of four lines of verse, usually with a rhyme scheme of abab but there are variations to the rhyme scheme.
Structure…
As stated above there is a minimum of four quatrains for this form with a rhyme scheme of “a b c a” and a syllable count of “9 8 9 8” for each stanza and continues on for as many stanza’s as you wish as long as there is the minimum of four with the fourth or final stanza (if there are more than four) being a repeat (refrain) of the first.

History…
The La’Tuin, a poetic form created by Laura Lamarca. The La'Tuin is named after A'Tuin, a giant turtle from the Diskworld series and is a symbol of Mother Earth. La is Laura Lamarca's signature. Laura has written a book of poetry "From the Heart - poems by Laura Lamarca" and is working on her second book.
I sent her an email requesting additional information about this poem and requesting permission to post one of her poems as an example but after waiting for two months without a response it is time to proceed and do the usual…write the poem myself.
You can find additional information on Laura Lamarca and more of her poetry at the following sites.

Now my poem…
Talons
I saw it take flight, wings beating hard
Rising high into the clear sky
In its talons was the catch it made
As in a tale told by a bard
Of a bird that flew over the yard
Looking down with an eagle eye
Slicing the sky like a razor blade
Its prey had better be on guard
Prey in sight it dove without regard
The eagle let out a great cry
Its talons the mouse could not evade
On this day the eagle has starred
I saw it take flight, wings beating hard
Rising high into the clear sky
In its talons was the catch it made
As in a tale told by a bard
