Bold and Brash (#36 Tyburn)

What is a Tyburn…
A Tyburn is a six line poem with a set syllable count.

Structure…
The first four lines rhyme and are all descriptive words (generally two syllable words). The last two lines rhyme and each include two of the first four lines as the 5th to 8th syllables. In other words two of the first four lines are incorporated into line five and two into line six. It does not matter in what order the first four lines are used in the last two lines as long as they are used.

An example of the structure is:
xa
xa
xa
xa
xxxxxxxxb (incorporate two of the first four lines in this line)
xxxxxxxxb (incorporate two of the first four lines in this line)

Terms…
No new terms for this entry.

History…
I do not have any “factual” historical tid-bits for this form of poetry however it is suspected that this form of poetry originated in Tyburn England in the eighteenth century.

Now my poem…

Brashness
Darkness
Blackness
Boldness
Here I sit in darkness, blackness all
This is were the boldness, brashness call

Eire,
At the risk of sounding repetitive, thank you again for all your hard work that makes this forum possible Exclamation I'm still trying to get out of my rythme and rhyme rut. I wouldn't call it writer's block, more writer's rut. Confused I thought I'd play with some of the styles you've posted to this forum to shake loose some creative juices. So here I landed this morning as my coffee brews... Very Happy
I found the Tyburn a wonderful way to kickstart some simple yet vivid imagery. Thanks!

Sunny Cool

STORM WATCH

Splashing
Crashing
Thrashing
Smashing
Once dancing seas splashing, crashing with rhythmic seduction,
Now stormy seas thrashing, smashing with relentless destruction.

Sunny,

That was a very nice poem...and you can be as repetitive as you wish.
It is very nice to know that people are reading and gaining something from all of this.

Thank you,
