Bruce (#9 Clerihew-Types of poetry series)
What is a Clerihew?
A Clerihew is a comic poem consisting of two couplets (some call that a quatrain). It is an easy poem to write and has a specific rhyming scheme of a a b b. The poem is about or deals with a person or character. In most cases the first line names the person or character.
Structure of the poem…
As noted above the rhyme scheme is a a b b which is a way of saying the first two lines rhyme with each other and the second two lines rhyme with each other. Generally the first line ends with the name of the person or character and the second line ends with something that rhymes with that person’s name. The third line and forth line must rhyme with each other.
There is no line length requirement for this form of poem. There are only the requirements that have already been stated.
1. Four lines consisting of two couplets that rhyme.
2. It is about a person or character (it does not have to be about someone you know).
3. Make it funny…remember the poem is supposed to be FUNNY.
A little history…
The clerihew developed by Edmund Clerihew Bentley in 1891 when he was 16 years old.
Now my poem…
I once knew a boy named Bruce
He walked like a goose
In his hat was a feather
His mother put him on a tether

Lol - now this I might be able to handle. In fact, sometime when I am not half asleep, I'll come back and post you one.

Alright, heres a try at it. Last two lines dont exactly rhyme, but I never liked rhyming poems all that well anyhow...
I know this lovely poetess who calls herself Eiregirl
I listen closely as her words surround and swirl
The loss of my innocence I now mourn
As Eire adjusts her halo to cover the horns
*grinning* (I made the halo for you Eire)
