Conundrum
Conundrum, silence, sour, albeit, peculiar

Most peculiar. . .
this whole existence,
when you come to think of it.
The conundrum:
"what is the meaning of it all, the big picture?" and, "is there one?"
In honesty,
we toss it off to the universe
and the reply is silence,
not a booming voice
that nails it for every living creature with ears.
Our answers are filtered
through experience and belief,
and if voiced at all,
then through that still small voice
emanating from the very core of our souls.
Yet,
do we race to assemble the chorus of agreement,
and tack up the signs
asserting a certainty
that is not quite there;
and the more insistent the proclaimation,
it might outline the gulf between
"I believe"
and
"I know"
for that matter,
the image of the gulf is all the more detailed
by the sour frown
that comes to meet every opposition,
albeit brief,
before it is
wrenched apart
by the locomotive spew
of venomous words
whether subtle,
or naked and jagged.
