While you were sleeping

Without further ado or painstaking thought
you are sleeping...right now in my view
and I am typing something I am not sure of in the end result
it is this moment I want to preserve by any means possible
I guess that is love, I guess I am still a puppy of such affections for you
I guess it does not matter who reads and who does not
it is just this little preserved corner for me and you
as you were sleeping
unaware
unconscious
of my own world caught by your presence
even when you could not notice or
feel by it...

As you sleep, I am aware of your troubles and your dreams
I think about your thoughts and feelings
recalling them now...once again as you lie sleeping
This is what I do at night
when you are unaware
I am that lover and I am that friend

I am stuck by my thoughts now
what more can be said
Your body moves by your breaths
I watch you inhale and exhale
without you knowing
and I love that you trust me
to see and adore you
even when you are unware

And when your beautiful eyes open
I will probably be sleeping
or I might trudge to the kitchen for coffee
in the rudimentary awakening of this body
I may be groggy at first light
but what I hold dear is here...
in my full conscience

and while you were sleeping
I put my wing around you
I covered you
I loved you
as simply as 2pm
when your voice dips into my soul
you are what I hold
even when, you are not aware

And if you ever need reassurance...
come back to here
as I pour my heart into words
and know
how many moments are about you
even as you dream

And while you were sleeping
I spoke to my heart for you
and it said
you can go ahead and listen to the silence
and in that silence
it is beautiful
to know you love someone

...
