We connected with the mental
Engaged in the physical
Eluded the emotional
And ignored the social
We were exclusive
But inviting to the open minded
From love we got blinded
Ran ahead never looking back
Should've taken heed
When friends observed our speed
But their warnings...
We never minded.
After six months of solitude
We're now face to face
Wondering what to say
And how to say it
So it's not taken the wrong way
How to fight the awkward silence
When it gets in the way
And the sexual urges...
Gotta keep them at bay.
Hey, we're only human
But our friendship comes first
Truly valuing each other
Instead of succumbing to lust
We've both matured
And know what's best
Testing the strength of our bond
But not loving each other any less...
While still connecting at the mental
Abolishing the physical
Confronting the emotional
And welcoming the social
Because our relationship was tried
And eventually it died.
But our friendship lives on
As an example for the world to see
That friendship can exist after intimacy
It is wonderful when lovers can be friends because it often does not work out that way and it is very nice when it does.
Hugs,

"... As an example for the world to see

True that.
I know a few people for whom that holds true.
Cheers for sharing your poem. =)
