A truth in addiction

...

What is so strange about addiction is
it tells the truth on some things
it's like a religion
proclaiming our inherited fallibilities
within this broken world with its broken philosophies and principles

Addiction carves out emotion
and flips it to the fire
to burn in a place far away from the heart
it chisels out needs, especially the ones that were not met anyway
it replaces the exposed with something obtainable to fill it with
that was so hard to obtain before

What is so different about an addicted person and one who...
thinks
his or her life is filled exclusively by his own effort and resource
I'd say nothing
it is all the same thing in the end
What is the difference between those who
drink to evaporate
and those who remain in a surface cloud of shallow relationships
always living behind walls
I'd say nothing

Some things tell the truth
how we label it does not matter

What is so strange about life
is how so many people wind up lonely and alone
when we all have the same needs
what is so different between someone who injects
and someone who won't let anyone through?
I'd say nothing
What is the difference between a trip on acid
and the fantasy that we have nothing left to learn on how to deal with life
I'd say nothing

What is so different than an addict living his life for his drug
and someone living their life just for themselves
surrounding themselves with only those who will make them 'high'...
not humble nor realistically human
frankly...nothing
