Rumi & Tagore to haunting music

Firstly, just to say I enjoyed and found Sunny's threads on this page most interesting - shall continue to read.

Next, just something I wanted to share.
I understand most of this is about our own writings, but being lovers of words we also appreciate well known writings and I bend towards that today, particularly the passionate words of Rumi and Rabindranath Tagore read to music. Some of you might already have come across these, Deepak Chopra has compiled some of the writings of these writers to sensual/haunting music and which are read by well known personalities (Martin Sheen, Mayou Angleou, Demi Moore, Coleman Barks, Gina Gershon etc) - they are exquisite, an experience, and inspirational. They are the "A GIFT OF LOVE" series, easily available. Noted below are just 2 of these poems which are heady when heard this way :

"LOOKING FOR YOUR FACE

From the beginning of my life
I have been looking for your face
but today I have seen it

Today I have seen
the charm, the beauty,
the unfathomable grace
of the face
that I was looking for

Today I have found you
and those who laughed
And scorned me yesterday
are sorry that they were not looking
as I did

I am bewildered by the magnificence
of your beauty
and wish to see you
with a hundred eyes

My heart has burned with passion
and has searched forever
for this wondrous beauty
that I now behold

I am ashamed
to call this love human
and afraid of God
to call it divine

Your fragrant breath
like the morning breeze
has come to the stillness of the garden
You have breathed new life into me
I have become your sunshine
and also your shadow

My soul is screaming in ecstasy
Every fiber of my being
is in love with you

Your effulgence
has lit a fire in my heart
for me
the earth and sky

My arrow of love
has arrived at the target
I am in the house of mercy
and my heart
is a place of prayer"

The Love Poems of RUMI
Edited by Deepak Chopra
Translations by Farsi scholar Fereydoun Kia

"THE MEANING OF LOVE

Both light and shadow
are the dance of Love.
Love has no cause;
it is the astrolabe of God’s secrets.
Lover and Loving are inseparable
and timeless.

Although I may try to describe Love
when I experience it I am speechless.
Although I may try to write about Love
I am rendered helpless;
my pen breaks and the paper slips away
at the ineffable place
where Lover, Loving and Loved are one.
Every moment is made glorious
by the light of Love."

~ Rumi ~

and lastly Tagore's I AM YOUR POEM :

"Here I am, spilling over with you
Like a cup overflowing with wine!

You see through my eyes
You hear through my ears
You weave words in my mind
And your joy sets them to music

Oh give your self to me, my love
Then feel me pouring back to you!

You are my poet, my love
And I am your poem."

Ashelita,

I sometimes listen to music as I write poetry I find that it can be very inspirational at times.

I have come across a few of those and loved them. I have heard a few read by James Earl Jones, Richard Burton (he does Dylan Thomas' poetry wonderfully).

Hugs,

Thanks Eiregirl - yes I think I'll have to branch out and try others.

And just a note of correction on my last post, Maya Angelou is not one of the reader's on these CD's - I had her muddled with another reading.
