The Darke is coming

We rail against the coming of the night
and pray the sun attenuates its fall
as darkness drowns the last few rays of light

Observing hope and joy that once shone bright
now shrouded in the evening's dusky pall
we rail against the coming of the night

Entombed and under gravestones out of sight
the dead wax restless at the night owl's call
as darkness drowns the last few rays of light

Our courage, vanquished, yields to torrid fright
for fear of our mortality we bawl;
We rail against the coming of the night

Yet, undeterred, fanged creatures taking flight
collude with those that slither, creep and crawl
as darkness drowns the last few rays of light

Anticipating horror in the plight
descending swiftly on us, one and all,
We rail against the coming of the night
as darkness drowns the last few rays of light
