Because of my Crime

When the gates closed
my world became dark
loneliness and sadness
my only friends
going through the motions
everyday more of the same
all day long
feelings of guilt and shame
how did i get here?
what have i done?
days, weeks, months
the time i have lost
never to get back
oh my, such a cost
i think of my family
and loved ones left behind
for they too have to suffer
because of my crime
feel sorry for myself
no i do not
quite frankly my dear
i deserve what i got
for once in my life
my eyes they do see
the changes i must make
in order to be free
