Sigh

I'm just venting ladies. My dear 91 year old Mum is in Hospital, yet again! This is the 3rd time this year, first the badly broken leg, then the punctured lung and now she has a bowel obstruction. I wonder how much more her poor little body can take, at the moment we are on 'watch and wait' but if nothing changes we could be looking at surgery Sad

So once again I start the treadmill of Hospital visiting, tracking down Doctors, running out to feed the parking meter, eating crap from the Hosp. canteen, driving from one end of the city to another and wondering what bed I am sleeping in when I wake up in the night. Plus dealing with sibings who don't live here and aren't dealing with the situation first hand, but who are very free with their advice on what I should or shouldn't be doing over the phone.

And that is nothing compared to the indignity my Mother suffers, even though I must say the Hospital staff are caring and kind. I wonder why we go to so much trouble to eat right, exercise, take supplements etc so we can live to these great ages, just to feel you are a burden on your family. I do dont want to get too old.

my only 'advice' would be to book in some treats for you along the way, something you really love - keep your spirits up...

I know there is nothing we can really say to make you feel any better about what's happening, but I want you to know that I know what you're going through, and I'm here if you need to talk. I know how it feels to see her suffer, and go through everything, as I just watched my mother go through the same thing, for months before she passed. You are doing what you can do, and that's be there for her, aand I'm sure she appreciates more than she's able to tell you!

Hang in there and if you need anything, let me know, ill do my best to help you, even if its just give an ear to listen Smile

Hugs,
SWAY

I'm so sorry that your Mom is in the hospital again. I so hope she won't need surgery. She sure is a fighter though.
As for you, I'll be praying for strength for you. I've been there and I'd give anything to be making that trip to the hospital again.

Thank you everyone for your caring words. It's been a long week but once again my Mum has amazed me with her fortitude and determination. Four days of rest and fluids seems to have resolved the situation and hopefully she will come home this weekend Smile I will be moving in with her again for a time as we gradually reintroduce solid food and she gets some strength back.

You know, I was reflecting on the drive home from the hospital yesterday that I had thought I was ready for when she finally moves on, back to my beloved father, and out of my life. But, this week's events have proved I'm not. Have always wondered what I would do the day I rocked up to her house and found the paper still on the front porch, I have planned how I would handle it, processed the emotions in my head, thought about what steps would be needed etc. Let me tell you all, you are NEVER ready. No matter how old they are, and how old you are. When I saw that newspaper still out my brain just shut down, opening the door to find the house still in darkness...........until I heard her voice calling weakly from the bedroom, I couldn't breathe or think straight. So those who have parents still with you please, pick up the phone, say 'I love you" just because.

I'm glad you Mom is better. I read your post with tears in my eyes, remembering my dad. I can only offer you my support through words. I hope it helps. Just know that you are a good and loving daughter MG. Your Mom knows this too! When your siblings give you their long distance advice, just say " Mhm, mhm" and hang up the phone. Do what you know is right. No one is ready for their parents to leave them, no matter what the circumstances. Even during my father's waning physical and mental days, I wasn't ready. Put that into God's hands, MG. You are obviously a strong woman, a loving and caring daughter. Enjoy the time you have with her. Make her laugh! Pull out the family stories and let her remember the fun of life!

I'm glad to hear she's getting better, and that you can move back in to support her when she comes out. Your mum is amazing and so are you!
