Thanks for letting us know those who have already arrived.
However, we did ask Cave for daily reports, kinda like the 6 o'clock news?
Could you oblige? By the way, none of us seems to know you???

Carpete Dies!

Dear campers,

I hope (am sure) you keep enjoying yourselves out there. I hope you will stay dry, unbiten (by bugs, just to be more clear...Wink!) and don't burn your hamburgers and hot dogs on the fire! Smile

Well, yeah, I agree with Madame Prez, I miss the six o'clock News as well... would love to hear more inside stories...but I suppose you are having way too good of a time to spend precious seconds updating us others spread out around the globe on your well-being.

Keep it up & enjoy,

Footsie

Hi Mari, Exclamation

no, no Very Happy... carpete dies, that's how it is supposed to be. The alteration of the standard and generally known "carpe diem" was 100% on purpose. I had 6 years of Latin in high school, here my grammatical explanation: carpe diem , as most know, means in English "seize the day!". "Seize" signifies the imperative singular form of "carpere". "Carpete" is imperative plural, i.e. addressing multiple individuals. Moreover, "diem" is accusative singular of "dies". However, the campers are spending more than one single day at the site, so I altered "diem" into "dies", which - in addition to the nominative singular form - both the nominative and accusative plural form, i.e. meaning "days".

In short, I was addressing all the campers to seize the days out there.

Just to explain my Latin phrase.... Wink

p.s. I had some quite demanding and strict (female) Latin teachers back in my stone aged German high school days. We had no choice but learn and know our sh*… Razz so even now 10-plus years later I haven’t forgotten it all. Wink

I so enjoyed your Latin tutorial. I've had only 4 yrs of Latin, loved it, but I sure don't know as much as you.

Thanks,

Mdm

Bonsoir Madame, Wink

Very Happy i am glad you enjoyed my short little Latin lesson of the Day. Razz i was a bit afraid that my post may sound a bit arrogant. Hopefully it did not. I just prefer putting correct reality on the table.

You had 4 years of Latin? And you live in the U.S.? that is quite rare...wow! In fact, there are not many people on this planet in general nowadays that still study Latin. Also here in Germany not many do, and the majority who do, hate it, because it is a quite hard language to study. You really get drilled with grammar. Studying Latin teaches you a lot... not just advanced grammar, but also skills like critical thinking, attention to detail, mental endurance (I have spent ages trying to dissect one single sentence by Cicero, Ovid, Cesar, etc...very frustrating experience doing Latin homework at times! Razz).

Cordially,

Footsie
